It is often necessary to change password on your Wi-Fi connection. In small business office you often give your Wi-Fi password to guests and customers. The more people have the password the more chances that they can use it in some malicious ways. So it is a good practice to change router password from time to time. It gets especially important if you have computers with sensitive data on the same network where your wi-fi connection is.

To change your Wi-Fi password you need to access your router. To do this you need to type router IP in your browser. For example if your router IP is 192.168.o.1 you need to type http://192.168.0.1/ into a browser. To learn how to get this IP you can read instructions on home page of this website. Once you have this IP address and type it into the browser address bar you should see router administration interface. There you need to type your router login and password. Once you logged in to the router look for the section responsible for WLAN configuration. This is a section where you can configure all details about your Wi-Fi connection.

In the WLAN section you need to click on SSID settings. SSID is a short for Wi-Fi network name. You can see SSID of your Wi-Fi network when you are trying to join it from your computer or mobile device. In SSID settings section you will see SSID name. You can change this name to another one if you need. But don't change it without necessity since name change will require you to reconnect all devices to Wi-Fi network.

To change a Wi-Fi network you need to go to security tab in WLAN section. There you will see a field where you can type new password (typicalyly it is called WPA passphrase). Make sure to check password very carefully before you save it. Once you save it router will restart Wi-Fi network and if you were connected to it over it you need to reconnect. If you don't write down Wi-Fi password correctly the only way to reset it will be to connect to router using wired connection.

When you change your Wi-Fi password make sure that the new password is strong and secure. It should contain letters, numbers and some special symbols. To generate good an strong password you can use password generation websites on the internet.

Make sure that you give your Wi-Fi password only to trusted people. If your network is not configured properly anyone with Wi-Fi access can gain access to your computers.
